[ANIME] [FANSUB] [SUB] Oblivion Island

Full Title: Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic MirrorOblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror is a by-the-book summer blockbuster computer animated movie with a visual style that seems to be what one gets if you slap together Pixar, Square Enix and Studio Ghibli into one giant mess. The plot is that standard plot with the girl who's got a problem in the real world who gets sucked into a magical world and is forced to recover a MacGuffin and save said magical world from a generic evil vil...

[ANIME] [DVD] [SUB] Metropolis

So, I just watched the film Metropolis. I didn't really like it. I suppose I should be more specific: I thought it was OK right up until near the end, but what happened at the end (which is a spoiler, so I'll avoid giving it away) kind of ruined any goodwill that the film had bought itself until that point. The film is set in a futuristic world where AI has developed to the point where it's able to hold conversations and take many human jobs: there's some traditional human vs. robot tension, thou...

[ANIME] [SERIES] [DVD] [SUB] [DUB] NieA_7

NieA_7 (Pronounced "Niea Under Seven") is a rather odd comedy/drama offering from all-round genius Yoshitoshi ABe, and chronologically is bracketed by his most famous works Serial Experiments Lain and Haibane Renmei, yet doesn't have nearly as much recognition. This is probably because it's ABe's only attempt at a comedy, a genre he doesn't immediately seem suited for. It's also an oddball comedy about a ronin student set in a bathhouse that isn't wall-to-wall fanservice and doesn't ...

[ANIME] [DVD] [DUB] [Disc 1-2] Romeo x Juliet

I promised this ages ago but....here we go...This is a review of the American release of the volume 01Boxset (Episodes 1 - 13) of Romeo x Juliet, distributed by Funimation.StoryAs the name implies, Romeo x Juliet is based on...well, Romeo and Juliet, the play by William Shakespeare that everyone and their mother knows all about. However, anyone looking for a strict adaption of Shakespeare’s play is going to be sorely disappointed. Although the basics (two rival families, two star-crossed lovers...

[DVD] [Disc 1][Region 1][ANIME] [DUB] Nanaka 6/17

Sporting a cliche spikey-haired delinquent and an, um, cliche 6 year old in a 17 year old's body, Nanaka 6/17 is your typical high school romance series. This is a second watching; the first one was, perhaps embarassingly, the AnimeJunkies fansub (which was one of their few good efforts).Basic plot: Bossy bookworm Nanaka's only friend is delinquent Nenji. Nanaka loses all memories she made since age 6, yet for some reason it's deemed appropriate to keep it secret rather than, you know, trying to...

[ANIME] [SERIES] [DVD] [SUB] [DUB] Fantastic Children

Product Reviewed: Fantastic Children Episodes 1-10Fantastic Children is a bit of an unexpected production. The art style is very simplistic, and suggestive of a children's series, but the convoluted plot and cultural references point towards an older audience. It's about a group of seemingly immortal white-haired green-eyed black-cloaked children, and a girl (Helga) and boy (Chitto) who escape from an abusive orphanage, and a young martial artist (Tohma) who lives with his parents on a remote ...

[MANGA] [SERIES] Tenshi Ja Nai!!

The short version, for those who follow this sort of manga: It's like W-Juliet, but done better. If you've already read (some of) W-Juliet that probably gives you an idea of whether it's worth trying. For those of you who aren't familiar, the longer version. Tenshi Ja Nai!! ("I'm No Angel") is a heartwarming manga in the well-known cross-dressing school romance drama genre. With acting. The premise is fairly standard; protagonist Hikaru joins an all-girls boarding school due to Family C...

[ANIME] [Disc 1-2][DVD] [SUB] [DUB] Cyber Team in Akihabara

It turns out I'd made some notes while watching the first two DVDs with the intention of writing a review. I'm yet to watch the 3rd disc, although that's not because the first 2 have put me off; I just don't know where it is. I apologise for the rather sparse content; I'm writing this from some notes I wrote on it months ago.Anyway, this series is about a little girl, Hibari, who gains a mysterious Patapi (think Furby, I suppose, though these seem rather more advanced). It for no particularly we...

[ANIME] [FANSUB] Allison and Lillia

I would give this anime a genre of Adventure, Comedy, Romance, Action and Slice of Life.It is done in a nice, classic drawing style but is a fairly new anime. This anime isn't exactly great, but it has a strange thing that makes you just want to watch more with every passing episode. Storyline is very straight forward, as well as some twists which adds to the excitement and suspense. The voice acting is very good. The song is abit cheesy but enjoyable. It has lots of classic weapons and a cross ...

[MANGA] [GN1] The Crimson Spell

The manga is primarily yaoi but is also an adventure through a magical world so it falls in the latter two categories as well. Because it is yaoi, it follows some somewhat stereotypical themes of more or less consensual sex, angst and unrequited love. The Crimson Spell tells the story of a cursed prince, Vald, who teams up with the powerful magician, Havi, to break the curse. In the process they are captured or chased by several people and the characters' back stories are developed. In theory tha...
